Oblivion by Jennifer L Armentrout

Synopsis from Goodreads: Experience the epic love story of OBSIDIAN as told by its hero, Daemon Black…

I knew the moment Katy Swartz moved in next door, there was going to be trouble. Lots of it.

And trouble’s the last thing I need, since I’m not exactly from around here. My people arrived on Earth from Lux, a planet thirteen billion light years away. Plus, if there’s one thing I know, it’s that humans can’t be trusted. We scare them. We can do things they only dream about, and honestly, we make them look weak as hell. ‘Cuz they are.

But Kat is getting to me in ways no one else has, and I can’t stop myself from wanting her—or wanting to use my powers to protect her. She makes me weak, and I’m the strongest of our kind, tasked with protecting us all. So this one simple girl…she can mean the end for us. Because the Luxen have an even bigger enemy—the Arum, and I need to stay on my game.

Falling for Katy—a human—won’t just place her in danger. It could get us all killed, and that’s one thing I’ll never let happen…

Now my review may seem overly generous, and maybe it is because I am a huge fan of the Lux series, and this is the first three books told from Daemon’s perspective. Daemon is one of my favorite characters because he is snarky and always cracks a joke, even when he probably shouldn’t, but at the same time he is vulnerable and kind. I loved his and Katy’s relationship, even when they were arguing with each other all the time. I think that is one of my favorite things about their relationship, because it makes it believable. They don’t instantly fall in love with each other. They bicker over little things and tease each other incessantly. They don’t always agree on everything, but at the same time, they work really well together, because they understand that they can’t agree on every little thing, so they agree to disagree and move past it like normal couples do. This book completely lived up to my expectations (which were set pretty high from all of the other books). I loved finding out why Daemon did some of the things he did (especially in the first book) and also learning some more about his past that we didn’t completely get to see from Katy’s perspective. If you loved the Lux series and were hesitant to read this book, I am telling you now that it is a must read. On the other hand, if you haven’t read the Lux series, then I would suggest reading those before picking this one up, though I guess you could probably read them in any order.

OVERALL RATING (out of 5): 5 stars

Let me know what you thought about any of the Lux books below (No spoilers for those who haven’t read them!!).
