Pottermore Sorting Hat Quiz

So since I am reading the Harry Potter books for the first time this year, I thought it would be fitting to take the official sorting hat quiz from Pottermore, especially because they recently updated it.

Going into it I have always seen myself as a Ravenclaw because I care more about how I do in school and how much I know than anything else, but that is not what Pottermore thinks I am… Apparently I am a Gryffindor. Now I don’t have anything against being a Gryffindor, but I was definitely shocked. I am thinking about retaking it under a different email just to check, but yeah, I guess you learn new things about yourself everyday.

Have you guys taken the new sorting hat quiz? What house are you in? Anyone else having a little identity crisis over what house they were sorted into?

2015 in review

The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 510 times in 2015. If it were a cable car, it would take about 9 trips to carry that many people.

I am absolutely in love with this series. I recently reread the first two, Demons at Deadnight and Drop Dead Demons, because I needed my fix. The characters are snarky, hilarious, and unique. I really cannot give this series enough praise. I love Aurora and her Hex Boys beyond compare! There were also new characters introduced who completely lived up to the standards set by the Hex Boys (which is hard to do!). The plot also thickens in this newest installment. We get answers to many of the questions from the previous two books, and new questions to be answered later on. I have a few sneaking suspicions that I am hoping come true (but I am also a little scared about). I really cannot put into words how much I love these books and the two wonderful ladies who penned such a masterpiece!

Let me know if you have read this one or any of the past series books. Who’s your favorite Hex Boy? What would you do in Aurora’s shoes? Van Helsing or Sadie?

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Synopsis from Goodreads: This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.

But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart …

I have heard so many raving reviews of this book, so I had been eager to pick it up for a while. On Thanksgiving, we were talking about going Black Friday shopping, and my mom saw that Barnes and Noble sells a whole bunch of signed copies of different books. My sister and I got up early the next morning, and waited outside in the rain in our pajamas for a half an hour before they let us in. We ran over to the shelves, and I snatched up a copy of Red Queen before anyone else could get it. It was fate. I just recently got around to reading it because I have had a bunch of new releases that I wanted to read, but now that I finished it, I can’t believe I waited this long to read it. Aveyard weaves an amazing tale with intriguing characters, a new and interesting world, and an unique power system. I experienced every twist and turn right along side the main character, Mare. When I was almost done, I thought I had figured out where it was headed, but boy was I wrong. Fantasy is one of my favorite genres, especially high fantasy, because I love finding new worlds to inhabit, and this world blew me away. She explained all of the different houses, their powers, different limitations and strengths the silvers had, and the struggles of the reds. There were also very few flat characters. If you knew a characters name, chances are they were important at some point. There wasn’t a lot of time spent talking about some random kid in a corner that Mare would never see again or anything like that. When I read hyped up books, they tend to either astound me or put me into a reading slump from trying so hard to finish them. Thankfully, Red Queen did the former, and now I can’t wait to get my hands on Glass Sword.

OVERALL RATING (out of 5): 5 stars

Let me know in the comments if you’ve read it. What did you think? Are you a fan of high fantasy novels? If you were a silver, what kind would you want to be?

Romeo and Juliet had it easier. They came from warring families who clearly drew a line for them not to cross. It wasn’t the same with Easton and Georgia. They came from a town where family was precious and moments were cherished. Still, there were unspoken rules, such as not falling for your best friends kid sister—or testing troubled hearts.
The losses Easton and Georgia endured at a young age tossed them down separate paths, far from the sleepy town they both had roots within.

Now, broken roads and bad decisions were the demons in their pasts—choices that would either draw them together, or rip them apart when chance landed them face to face once more.

“I tend to attract the broken.”
“I’m not broken,” Easton snapped in a hiss of words.
She felt her body tense before her next bold words came. “Did I say you were?” She lifted her chin. “Am I attracting you, Easton Ballantine?”
He looked right at her, green to blue, a stare reaching past the fraudulent calm surface. Yes, she was. Which only pissed him off more. Not only was she not anywhere near his type, she was Memphis’s kid sister, Lucas’s daughter—she was seventeen. No way in hell this is going down.
He smirked to break the gaze they shared, to put a wall between her and him—to do anything to block the way she was messing with his head.
“I’m every kind of bad habit you don’t want or need, Georgia.”

The fun non boring Bio 🙂
I’m an obsessive daydreamer. Lover of loud alternative music. Addicted to Red Bull. I love to laugh until it hurts. Fall is my favorite season. Black is my favorite ‘shade.’ Strong believer in the saying: there is a reason for everything, therefore I search for ‘marked moments’ every moment of everyday…and I find them. Life is beautiful!

Boring one….
Jamie Magee has always believed that each of us have a defining gift that sets us apart from the rest of the world, she has always envied those who have known from their first breath what their gift was. Not knowing hers, she began a career in the fast paced world of business. Raising a young family, and competing to rise higher in that field would drive some to the point of insanity, but she always found a moment of escape in a passing daydream. Her imagination would take her to places she’d never been, introduce her to people she’s never known. Insight, her debuting novel, is a result of that powerful imagination. Today, she is grateful that not knowing what defined her, led her on a path of discovery that would always be a part of her.
