Shadowhunters TV Show Review of Episodes 1 & 2

I was pleseantly suprised when I was watching the tv show. Yes, there were a lot of things that bugged me about it, but for the most part, I understood why they changed the things that they did. I think seeing how much of a train wreck the movie was made me a little more prepared for the changes in the show, because I understand that the book doesn’t necessarily translate well into video format. I think episode 2 was better than episode 1, mostly because they dropped several one-liners from the books about, like, Izzy’s cooking and “Shadowhunters looking better in black…” The firsy time I watched them, I saw it through rose colored glasses, and by that I mean that I was expecting it to be horrible, so when I first saw them, I didn’t notice all the things that were weird. The second time I watched them, my friend and I started writing out lists while we watched them of the things we liked or didn’t like. I made a list for the second episode, which is here:

What’s with the rune that takes away the glamour on the institute?

How did seeing the institute mean there is a war?

Stupid circle rune

Jace’s father wasnt killed in the circle revolt jace wasnt even born at the time

“The runes may be less lethal (than izzy’s cooking)”

“Dont eat the food”

And luke transforms in the middle of a freaking parking lot

Fairchild name drop

Hodge sounds like he had a crush on jocelyn

Stupid rune curse why the hell wouldnt he be able to talk about the circle?

Hodge sounds like he’s on drugs

The mortal cup does not let people control demons, he did that with demon blood

How would hodge have made a deal with valentine if he couldnt talk about the circle without falling over?

Because that is the first thing that comes to mind when someone in a traumatic situation is a memory wipe spell.

Izzy room has white which is a shadowhunter mourning color

FORSAKEN!!

Ew that was just creepy (he’a the ultimate protector) you are basically his freaking sister and it sounds like you have a crush on him

What is up with Luke’s boss? She has been in it too much to not have anything to do with the shadow world

If jace’s father died in the revolt that means jace was ten which would have meant he was eleven years older than clary because jocelyn was barely pregnant at the time of the revolt

The seelie dont work with the clave even involving valentine so how would the clave send seelie scouts

Weird freaking necklace

Shadowhunter mobile!

They finally called dot dorothea

I thought they were gonna get to talk to magnus! I was waiting for Alec to meet him, plus magnus was never THAT hostile towards shadowhunters

Yes, let’s follow the weird necklace visions

Pan~demon~ium

Why are they afraid of the silent brothers?

The city of bones

Ugh the city of bones is supposed to be in a cemetery

“Are you kidding me? I was born afraid, which sounded a lot better in my head.”

She tried to freaking tell you but you wouldnt listen

Yes, it makes perfect sense that the reason you felt out of place is because you were part of a secret race of demon hunters so you shouldn’t be at all worried

Did he inject her with demon blood bc it’s black?

Why does mundane blood hurt shadownunters and demon blood hirt warlocks? Shadowhunters are half human half angel and warlocks are half human half demon so why does their blood hurt them?

Rune in the graffiti

Soul sword

Why would she die?

Jace wouldn’t have let her done anything he thought would hurt her

You’re clary freaking fray

Why would the rune energy kill a mundane?

God, izzy is an obnoxious flirt

Does his captain know he is a werewolf? Because she is a little too suspicious if she thinks he is normal

Witchlight!

The descent into hell is easy

Looking better in black than the widows over our enemies

It’s cute, you assume i have feelings. I dont.

I circle members forfeit their right to be buried there, does that mean mayrse and robert wouldn’t be buried there either?

The silent brothers masks look like air dry clay from michaels or something

Where’s “it” going?

Of course there is already a vampire in the truck

Why wouldn’t they check if she was actually asleep before talking about what they are hiding from her?

Why did she find out about valentine so early?

Stop wasting time talking to jocelyn and get the hell out of there

The other guy had a seizure after being stabbed and this guy died fairly peacefully

So is dot dead now?

You think clary is a spy? Why would she tell jace that valentine was her father if she was a spy?

Still no rat simon in the show
I am going to try and post some more of these as the season goes on so I can see how my opinions change as the show progresses. I want to give it some leeway for a while, because they have a lot to try and set up, so I don’t want to judge it on the littlw things yet, but it has potential.

Tell me what you thought about the show. Were there certain things that bothered you? Things you liked? Things you hope are included/changed later in the season?

Thoughts on the Shadowhunters TV Show

Thoughts on Shadowhunters TV Show
So as you all probably know, The Mortal Instruments is getting another shot with a television show on ABC Family. At first, I thought that the show was going to suck, but I knew I would have to watch it anyways. When they started releasing the cast and set pictures, I started getting really excited and hopeful for the show.
Jace: Dominic Sherwood

I wasn’t sure how I felt about Dom when I first saw him for two reasons. One, Jamie will always be my Jace (even though I knew he wouldn’t do the tv show), and two, Dom is my Christian Ozera. But now seeing him with our Clary and blonde hair, I think he will be a good Jace. At least I know he can act from the VA movie.

Simon: Alberto Rosende

I really like Alberto as Simon, because I think he looks perfect, especially in that picture of him with glasses. He hasn’t been in a lot, so I can’t say as of yet whether or not he can act, but looks are spot on.

Izzy: Emeraude Toubia

I like Emeraude as Izzy, I think she looks like Izzy does in my head for the most part. I don’t think it should matter that she is Hispanic, she looks the part and as long as she can pull off Izzy’s badassery and her vulnerability, then we shouldn’t be complaining.

Clary: Kat McNamara

She looks like the perfect Clary! I liked Lily Collins as Clary, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like she looked a little older, even though they are aging the characters up in the show. The one thing that worries me about Kat is that I feel like she is a little to bright and cheery for Clary. In all her videos, Kat is super excited, which is great because she wants to be Clary, it’s just hard to picture her depressed and worried or in any negative situation like Clary is put in. I have seen her act in some Disney Channel movies, however, so I am sure that she can pull it off.

Luke: Isaiah Mustafa

It came as a shock to me that Luke was black, but I don’t think it is something that will make or break the series. Luke being white isn’t something that Cassie stresses like she does with Jace’s blonde hair, Clary’s red hair, or Alec’s blue eyes. If Isaiah can play Luke the way he is meant to be, then his race shouldn’t matter. What does worry me is that he is supposedly a detective working on demon-related cases. The whole point of the shadowhunters is that the outside world doesn’t know they are protecting them.

Alec: Mathew Daddario

I don’t have a lot to say about Alec. I think he looks like Alec, but I haven’t seen him act, so we will see.

Magnus: Harry Shum Jr.

He is freaking Magnus! He looks perfect and is posting a bunch of pictures on snapchat, which is awesome. I know a lot of people said they saw him on Glee, but I haven’t seen him in anything, so I don’t know about his acting skills.

Valentine: Alan Van Sprang

I saw him in Reign, and I think he can play the part. He isn’t how I pictured Valentine, but if he can act like Valentine, I think I can over look it.

Jocelyn: Maxim Roy

Again, not a lot to say. I wish they died her hair a little more red, but it’s okay. I’ve never seen her act. Guess we’ll see about Jocelyn.

Raphael: Jon Clay Harris

I am just happy we have a Raphael this time around.
The pictures and stuff are making me super excited!

Waiting on Wednesday (8-27-14)

I am excited for sequel releases in September, as well as author signings in my area.

Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien’s only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan’s Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King’s Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan’s biggest threat – and his own toughest enemy.

While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love? (Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20613470-heir-of-fire?from_search=true)

I first heard of Throne of Glass at the YA Giveback Tour, and was intrigued by the concept. Sarah first thought of the idea when she was listening to the score of the Cinderella movie, and thought ‘what would have happened if Cinderella was an assassin?’ That right there says enough about how amazing this books is.

Comes Out: Sept. 2

Echoes of Us by Kat Zhang

All Eva ever wanted was the chance to be herself. But in the Americas, to be hybrid—to share your body with a second soul—is not tolerated past childhood. Now Eva and Addie, her sister soul, are constantly on the move, hiding from the officials who seek to capture them. But the tide is changing. A revolution is brewing, and people are starting to question the hybrids’ mistreatment.

Then Marion, an ambitious reporter, offers Eva and Addie a daring proposal: If they go undercover and film the wretched conditions of a hybrid institution, she will not only rescue them, she’ll find a way to free Jackson, the boy Addie loves. It’s risky, and Eva will have to leave Ryan and her friends behind, but if she succeeds, it could also tip the scales forever and lead to hybrid freedom.

As Eva and Addie walk into danger, they cling to each other and the hope of a better future. But the price they might pay is higher than they ever could have imagined. (Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17352960-echoes-of-us)

I read this book when it first came out and I saw it at Barnes and Noble. The cover instantly drew me in because it is an amazingly beautiful cover, but then when I read the synopsis, I was sold. I went to get my first book signed at the Young Authors Giveback Tour, and then called and got a signed early copy Once We Were. I am hooked into this series and I can’t believe this is the last book, I am sincerly going to miss every single one of those charasters, and I am honestly scared based on quotes that Kat has put out on her Tumblr.

Top Five Tuesday: Series

I have trouble picking out a single favorite books so here are a a list of SOME of my favorite series (keep in mind it’s late where I live so my brain shut down).

1.) Web of Hearts and Souls series by Jamie Magee

The Web of Hearts and Souls series includes three seperate series: The Insight series, The See series, and the Rivulet series. Linked at the bottom are the first three books in the series on good reads. Insight and See are free on the kindle, and I believe Kobo and Nook as well, but I am not sure about the last two, so there are links to purchase them from amazon as well.

2.) The Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout

If you have read any of my posts in the last week, then you know that I have been obsessively binge reading this series. The concept is new and the plot is great, with funny, complex, and relatable characters. Love Love Love this series. The first book, Obsidian was also free on the kindle when I bought it, so the link for it on amazon and on goodreads is below (though I am not sure is it still on sale).

3.) The Infernal Devices Trilogy by Cassandra Clare

The Infernal Devices (and any other Cassie Clare books) are must-reads. I am in love with both Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs. The World is wonderfuland beautifully constructed. Tessa is an amazing main character. This series is an all around amazing series, though the last book is definitley a tear- jerker… The link to the first book on goodreads is below.

4.) Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

I wasn’t a huge fan of Vampire Academy, but I extremely enjoyed reading about Sydney, Adrian, and the gang in California. I personally found the story more interesting, and I adore the characters in this series. They are perfect, but also flawed and just UGGG, too amazing for words.

5.) The Maximum Ride Series by James Patterson

I feel like I have to throw this one in there because, this is the series that got me into reading, though I would only recommend to middle-grade readers, because I feel like if I picked it up now, I wouldn’t like it as much as I did originally, since I am used to higher level storylines. But WARNING this series was originally a trilogy, then it was supposed to end with eight books, and now there is a ninth book coming out in January. This series may NEVER end, though I am excited to read the newest installment: Maximum Ride Forver (I know it’s a stupid title), I know that many are way less than enthusiastic about reopening a well wrapped up storyline.

So those were a list of a couple of my favorite series, I know I missed a lot of them, but those were the first ones that popped into my head when I thought favorites. Tell me what some of your favorite series were in the comment sections below, and I hope to see you next time.
